Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card: What the New Partnership Offers

Scapia and Axis Bank launched a co-branded credit card on 3 September 2026 with no joining or annual fee, zero forex markup, and Mastercard and RuPay variants.

Scapia and Axis Bank announced a co-branded credit card on 3 September 2026 with no joining or annual fee, zero forex markup, and Mastercard and RuPay variants.

A travel card issued by a mid-sized bank reaches the customers that bank can approve. The same card issued by one of India's largest private banks reaches a far wider set. That gap is the story behind the Scapia Axis Bank Credit Card, announced on 3 September 2026: the product is familiar, and the issuer is what changed.

The same promise on a bigger balance sheet

Scapia built its card around a short list of promises: no joining fee, no annual fee, zero forex markup, and rewards that convert into travel inside its own app. It launched with Federal Bank and later added BOBCARD. The Axis Bank card keeps every one of those promises. There is no joining or annual fee, international transactions carry zero forex markup, and spends, rewards and bookings all sit inside the Scapia app.

What Axis adds is reach. A bank with a national card franchise can approve applicants in places and income bands where a smaller issuer's card was hard to get. For a reader who wanted the Federal Bank Scapia card and was declined on serviceability, this launch is the relevant news.

Rewards as announced

The launch announcement sets out the earning structure in headline terms. Eligible travel bookings made on the Scapia app earn up to 20% back in Scapia Coins. Eligible everyday spends earn up to 10%. UPI, online and offline spends of ₹500 or more earn 5%. The card carries a 1% fuel surcharge waiver, and airport privileges cover lounges, dining and retail outlets.

"Up to" carries weight in that list. The top rates apply to eligible categories, and the full schedule of caps and exclusions lives in the card's terms. Scapia has repriced before: earlier in 2026 it doubled the monthly spend needed for lounge access from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000, which we covered in our Scapia, IDFC FIRST and YES Bank devaluation note. The distance between a headline rate and an effective rate is where a free card changes over time.

Mastercard and RuPay, side by side

The card is available on Mastercard and on RuPay. The RuPay variant matters for one reason: it links to UPI, so a scan-and-pay at a shop that takes no cards still earns rewards. We have written about why RuPay credit cards are gaining ground, and this launch fits that pattern. Mastercard remains the variant to carry abroad, where RuPay acceptance is thinner.

Where it sits in the Axis lineup

Axis Bank already sells travel cards, the Axis Horizon among them, that earn transferable miles and charge an annual fee. The Scapia card is aimed at a different customer: someone who wants a free card, redeems for flights and stays inside one app, and does not want to learn transfer partners. The two do not compete for the same wallet.

Is It Worth It

For a traveller without a zero forex card, a lifetime free one from a large issuer is an easy yes, and the 5% tier on spends of ₹500 or more is strong for a card with no fee. Existing holders of the Federal Bank Scapia card gain little by switching, since the proposition is the same. The one reason to look again is approval: applicants turned down before now have a second door.
